This past week, I joined Representative Chaplik, Shiry Sapir, and Carine Werner in penning an open letter to Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD).

The reason?

In April and May, it was discovered and reported by several parents that an SUSD employee was having inappropriate gender identity conversations with kindergarteners (including my own children!), making comments about their own gender and the gender identity of children. And when this was reported to the Superintendent, we expected immediate action.

On May 10th, SUSD responded to my complaint, acknowledging that the employee said to the children “I am not a boy or a girl.” And affirmed my Kindergartener’s statements.

However, since the report, this person remains in the classroom with our children and SUSD has concluded that this person will remain in the classroom with the children – at times alone. The consequences of 5 and 6 year-olds hearing these radical ideas cannot be undone. It appears that the well-being of our children does not take priority with the District.

In the report, I informed SUSD that this is a serious violation of the Arizona Administrative Code that prohibits sex education lessons or instruction before the 5th grade. This is a grave breach of trust that parents had in SUSD to only teach our children the fundamentals of reading, writing, math, and science.

There is no excuse for teachers and employees to have these conversations with children.

Despite my call for an immediate suspension of the SUSD employee in question until the investigation is complete, SUSD has decided to not take the matter seriously. Instead of taking responsibility for properly instructing teachers to avoid sex ed topics, SUSD prefers to shift the blame to parents.  We are demanding immediate review of new teacher orientation so that all employees know and adhere to Arizona state law.

The Superintendent would rather blame parents rather than focus on the problem. This is an unfortunately pervasive attitude. Listen to my recent interview with James T. Harris here.

The school boards and education bureaucrats said, “Trust us, your kids are not being taught radical ideologies,” but I know – and you know – that’s not true because it’s happening all over the country. And now we’re seeing it with our own eyes – and SUSD admits it.

I am NOT letting this slide! We will not stop until our schools get back to teaching — not indoctrinating.

ICYMI: In a leaked draft of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson, he wrote, “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. [ . . . ] Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences.” Although this leak was a transparent scheme to frighten the Supreme Court into changing their mind, I’m optimistic they’ll stick to their guns and this summer we will live in a post-Roe America. Incredible!
